"Wow, you can take criticism with a poker face!"

In the category "things I did not realize I had learned in academia": to take criticism or difficult questions and maintain a straight face, thank the giver of the criticism for their comments and suggestions and process it later. Hence the comment I received earlier today, which I will take as a compliment.

Indeed, within the world in which we operate, it is a compliment. And for many women (and men) this is not necessarily an easy thing to do (take criticism without emotion). But is it a good thing? I don't know.

I don't know either. I think sometimes it's good to show your emotions so people know how you feel about it, but I find it nice to (finally ;-)..) be in control of that.
